El Nido Caught Us Off Guard: We Were SHOCKED!

We thought we knew what to expect from the Philippine islands, but El Nido had a few spots waiting for us that we never saw coming.

After an incredible time in Boracay, we hopped on an Air Swift flight with the whole crew—Auntie Lauren and Uncle Ben included—and headed over to El Nido. We landed in the afternoon and checked into the Lagùn Hotel. After a quick rest to shake off the travel fatigue, we headed out into the town for an early dinner.

We decided to eat at Ver De, and honestly, the food caught us completely off guard. It was some of the best food we have ever had, and everyone in the family loved it. After such a satisfying meal, we took a slow walk around the town to get our bearings, but it wasn’t long before we were all ready for bed. We headed back to the hotel to get some sleep before our first full day in Palawan.

A Day for Total Relaxation

The next morning, we decided to embrace a much slower pace. We stayed in bed a little later than usual and spent the morning enjoying breakfast and a long swim in the hotel pool. While Lauren and Ben headed out on their own to explore the local area, we decided to stay behind with the kids for a total relaxation day. It was exactly what we needed to recharge before the big adventures we had planned for the rest of the week.

Island Hopping

On our third day, Joe booked us an island hopping tour. Our guide gave us a variation of Tour D, and we were so lucky that our boat had a top deck where we could sit back and relax between stops. We spent the day visiting some of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen, including Small Lagoon, Helicopter Island, and Cadlao Lagoon.

Our final stop was Pasandigan Cove, where the Wonderland El Nido Beach Resort is located. The entire trip was packed with snorkeling, kayaking, and great food and drinks. Seeing the limestone cliffs from the water was breathtaking, and the kids had a blast being out on the ocean all day. Once we pulled back into the El Nido port, Joe, the boys, and I grabbed some food at Happiness Beach Bar while Lauren and Ben went for drinks. We finished the night with a mandatory ice cream for Jacob and headed home happy.

Planes, Palms, and Las Cabanas Sunsets

For our final full day, the four of us headed over to Lio Beach. It is such a unique spot because you can relax on the sand while watching the planes fly in and out of the nearby El Nido Airport. We had a great lunch at PLNT+HRVST and spent a few hours just soaking up the sun before heading back to the hotel for a quick rest.

For our final evening, we took a tricycle to Las Cabanas Beach to watch the sunset. We saw the huge zipline that goes over the ocean to a small island; unfortunately, Jacob was just a little too small to go on it this time, but it gives us a great excuse to come back! Once the sun went down, we walked through the Vanilla Beach shopping center to find a tricycle back to the hotel. We had an early flight back to Manila the next morning, marking the end of an absolutely shocking and wonderful family holiday.
